Would you like more information on how to care for your alpacas? Perhaps you inherited a few when you purchased your small farm. This webinar with Dr Lou Baskind is about the basic care and management of alpacas.

The topics covered in the webinar will include:

  • Breed, space requirements and longevity
  • Safe and low-stress handling
  • Health and nutritional requirements
  • Giving routine treatments, poisonous plants, common health problems and prevention
  • Intestinal worms and liver fluke monitoring and treatment
  • Shearing requirements, even if you don’t want to use the fleece
  • Basic management and care of alpacas
  • Alpacas and biosecurity measures including ear tags, documentation requirements
  • When to call a vet.

Lou Baskind is a District Veterinarian with South East Local Land Services and is based in Braidwood. She graduated from Sydney University in 2009. She has worked in private practice including roles in the United Kingdom, Alice Springs and locally in Braidwood and Bungendore. Lou grew up on the land and has dabbled in small farming herself, raising pastured chickens. She is passionate about sharing best-practice, evidence-based information to landholders to help them ensure the health and welfare of the animals in their care.
